Synopsis:The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 5th study session on Harriet A. Washington’s extraordinary text, Medical Apartheid: The Dark History Of Medical Experimentation On Black Americans From Colonial Times To Present. Washington’s tremendous work exposes willful, premeditated pillaging of black bodies under the guise of “science.” Washington’s research should alter how black people interperate the scientific breakthroughs of whitefolks – like the “crispr” gene editing technology and DNA tracing websites that stockpile genetic material. Last week’s session explored the long running history of Whites abusing black people in life and death. Washington documented the extensive theft of black corpses across the country. Whites acknowledged that it would not be tolerated to defile White burial grounds, but Racist scientists and doctors had no reservations about pilfering the remains of black people. Washington also included how some black people helped Whites in the theft of black bodies. However, Washington emphasized that on the rare occasions when someone was punished for robbing black graves, it was invariably the less powerful black collaborators. Medical Apartheid should be mandatory reading for attempted counter-racists and all black people.
